Summertime Haircare

Now that summer is coming and things are opening back up, let’s have a little conversation about your hair. Let’s be real, you want to be in the pool, at the beach, on vacation, and just generally in the sun, right?!

So, what does that mean for your hair? In short, fading color and breakage.

Thankfully, there are things you can do to prevent that from happening! The first being, wear a hat! And who doesn’t love a floppy beach hat? I also highly recommend a UV protection spray like Oway’s Sun Protective Elixir. On a side note, don’t spray sunscreen in your hair! It can cause discoloration, especially in extensions.

If you know you’ll be swimming, try using Olaplex no.3 in your hair first to fill the porosity a bit and help block things like chlorine and salt from fading (or changing) your color. Wash your hair as soon as you can with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I love Davines’ NouNou line for this because it’s nourishing and hydrating. You can also wash once a week with a clarifying shampoo to remove mineral and chlorine build up. A great one is Davines’ Solu Shampoo.

Follow up with a post sun treatment or deep conditioning treatment to help keep your strands soft and luscious. Oway’s After Sun Hair Mask and Olaplex’s no.8 are amazing options.

I know some of us (myself included) love that beach hair texture though. If that’s the case for you, opt for a sea salt spray to get that gritty, post ocean swim texture. Both Davines and Oway have sea salt sprays that I love. Pair those with Amika’s Deep Wave iron and you can have beach hair year round!
